What is an AVR? "Automatic Voltage Regulator"

Congratulations Ms.Megan Young Miss World 2013.

     Anyway, back to topic.  Here is another beauty pageant question that made me speechless and would just want to say “world peace” after I heard it. Ok, what is an AVR? Just got a message from someone who wanted to buy one of my items http://damnels.sulit.com.ph/ . What can I say? How will I describe it to someone who didn't even know what it looks like?

I just simply relied “it’s like an extension cord specially designed for desktop computers, it regulates and maintains the voltage coming in to your computer.”

     This question was asked because the item that I was selling doesn't include one and the customer just wants to make sure that it’s really O.K to plug the computer directly to his wall outlet.

Well for me even if it’s just an ordinary AVR (generic) I’d rather use it than directly plugging my desktop computer directly to the wall outlet. I remember this one time inside my internet cafe, lightning strikes the entire computer population inside my shop turned off and one never recovered. Turns out it was severely affected by the unstable current and ended up having a burned AVR and Power Supply. The fuse inside it exploded but the current still manages to reach my power supply box inside my computer but luckily, those are the only components that are affected. 

     After a fuse replacement and a brand new power supply replacement for my system unit, everything’s back to normal.

So choose what’s best for you. AVR’s are just a fraction of the cost of your investment. But if it’s just a 3,000 worth of desktop system just like what I was selling I think Surge Protectors will do.
